1988年、スマッシング・パンプキンズが登場した時、世界は初めて耳にした彼らのサウンドに驚愕させられた。ロック、ポップ、シューゲイザー、メタル、ゴス、サイケ、エレクトロニックといったジャンルを網羅し、甘味なメロディ、ひしゃげたディストーション、ドラマチックなオーケストラ、扇動的なギター、豊かな作曲能力、確固たるフックによって万華鏡のようなサウンドをクリエイト。結成当初から彼らは斬新で唯一無二のサウンドを鳴らしていたが、今でもそれは変わらない。
